This is a birth record from 1919, requested by myself in 2025. While its some of my friends ancestors and he has no problem with me sharing it in whole, that really isn't necessary for the what I am trying to point out. So I masked some info.
I ordered this online without providing a copy of my drivers license. It was delivered by email to me as you see (minus my redacting).
The New Jersey Office of Vital Statistics issues genealogical copies of vital records, which are not valid for legal purposes. Genealogical records are defined as birth, death, and marriage records for people who are deceased and where the birth occurred more than 80 years ago, the marriage more than 50 years ago, and the death more than 40 years ago.
The one thing I'd like to point out is in New Jersey they record the age of the parents on the birth record. My Wisconsin birth record from the late 70's does not. This is especially beneficial to researchers. And this day in age where remarriage and mobility are more common, I'd say future researchers will have more to grumble about with Wisconsin records than my main gripe on the unnecessary felony attached to uncertified records.
